Welcome
This is Blackpowder CFO. We're going to be covering ops & finance, but also much more.
For me, the practice and study of "business" is much larger than profit. Businesses are curious things: sometimes large and powerful, but always incredibly precarious. They vary from small mom-and-pop shops (small businesses make up the majority of registered companies in the United States) to gargantuan multi-nationals. They can change form, die, or be revived. Companies have been at the forefront of nearly every technological advancement of the last few hundred years. In our daily lives, we buy from businesses, work in them, and depend on them to move the goods and services we use every day. This was true in ancient Sumer, where the first debt instruments were issued, or Rome, where goods were traded for Chinese silks, and it's still true today.
On a personal level, people grow in capability and learn to work with one another when doing business. Someone who operates a successful business has learned to make their mark on the world, and has learned to delight others. That's a wonderful thing, and a big reason I love working with founders.
Basically, I see business as fun and interesting. I'm going to be sharing content related to making business better, but we'll be taking many side-trips to explore this great interest of mine.
Welcome and let's get started.
